souped up sundays
Stone Soup proudly offers up our third season of "Souped Up Sundays" master class workshops. With this series, we hope to inspire artists with exposure to a variety of artistic approaches, providing the group with a common vocabulary and set of tools to use in creating future projects. We also use these workshops as a venue to give established artists a chance to teach their area of expertise and to meet new collaborators for future Stone Soup workshops, readings and productions.
All workshops will be Sundays from 2-5pm
All workshops will take place at Epiphany Theatre, 154 Christopher Street below Greenwich Street.

November 2nd- "Viewpoints" with Kim Weild
The Viewpoints are tools for staging and choreographing theater that allow a group of theater artists to function together spontaneously and intuitively with great freedom because of structure. They are a way to generate bold, theatrical work quickly. In this introductory workshop, participants will learn the Viewpoints vocabulary and spend time practicing the Viewpoints individually and as an ensemble in full improvisations.
November 9th-"Voice & Character: Working from Your Strength" with Ginger Eckert
Learn new technical tools to build and support bold character choices. Better understand how to practice good alignment and use of resonators and articulators. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Come with some memorized text that is easy to recall and play with, preferably a monologue. You'll walk away from this workshop with a solid vocal and speech warm-up and some new tools for building characters.
November 16th-"Stage Combat: Style & Character" with Drew Leary
Stage Combat: Style and Character. This workshop uses basic stage combat technique and basic weapon work to explore and encourage vivid acting choices. Actors will utilize style and genre to make strong, exciting choices that are truthful and grounded within their character's world.
November 23rd- "Introduction to Grotowski Training" with Erica Berg
In this workshop students will be introduced to the fundamental training exercises from Grotowski's early years. Students will both learn and discuss the physical training forms "the cat and "the plastique" exercises. We will take time to experience these forms in the body, and then make connections between this work and other work in the theatre, applying this explorative kind of training to contemporary performance and actor development.
Stone Soup is happy to open these workshops to the general public at a subsidized rate of $12 per class or, pay for all four workshops upfront for only $40! In an intimate setting of no more than 15 artists per class, this is one of the most affordable and exclusive options for theatrical training in New York City.
